Invisalign Offers Adults the Promise of Straighter Teeth
If you are an adult with less than perfect teeth, you may think that it is hopeless. Many people do not think that adults can enjoy straighter teeth. Besides, when someone thinks about teeth straightening, the first thing that comes to mind is a mouthful of metal and after all, you are much too old for that look.
Fortunately, there is a new product and procedure out that gives you hope for straighter teeth and a brighter smile. Invisalign can be used to straighten adult teeth without having to worry about a mouth full of metal. First, let’s examine a few reasons why you may want to check out teeth straightening as an adult.
The Benefits of Teeth Straightening
Of course, everyone knows that having straight teeth gives you a more confident smile. This can be perhaps even more important as an adult than when you were a teenager. A confident smile helps people trust you more. It can mean the difference between projecting a self-confident image at a job interview, or perhaps when meeting that important new client. A confident smile can help boost your career and improve your life. However, there are other reasons besides a confident smile to have straighter teeth. Here are a few of them.
- Teeth that are overcrowded or overlapping can cause problems when brushing. Straighter teeth mean more effective brushing.
- Straight teeth also mean that the teeth are aligned for better chewing. This can help reduce digestive problems in some people.
- Having better-aligned teeth can also mean fewer broken teeth. When teeth are protruding, they can become broken more easily than those that are in alignment.
- Crowded teeth can cause uneven pressure in the jaw, which can lead to headaches.
- Straighter teeth lead to better oral hygiene. This can also help to improve your overall health. Tooth decay and gum disease can lead to more serious health problems.
As you can see, having straighter teeth has many more benefits than improving your looks. Now, it is time to examine the best way to achieve straighter teeth and enjoy all of these benefits.
How Long Can Invisalign Straighten an Adult’s Teeth?
It is a common misconception that once you reach adulthood, it is too late to straighten your teeth. If your junior high days are long past, new orthodontic products and procedures can give you hope for the straight teeth that you always dreamed of. Perhaps your teeth were straight when you were younger, but they may have shifted over the years. This happens sometimes, and it is not too late to fix it. The next question you may have is, how long can Invisalign straighten an adult’s teeth?
Invisalign is a popular choice for straightening teeth in adults. It involves a series of custom aligners that move the teeth into place progressively. Throughout the procedure, the aligners are switched out every two weeks. The best part is that Invisalign straighteners can be taken out for special events, or to enjoy a meal.
Is It Possible to Straighten an Adult’s Teeth Using Invisalign?
The next question you may have is, is it possible to straighten an adult’s teeth using Invisalign? The answer to how long the straightening process takes depends on several factors. The first is how far your teeth have to move and how involved the misalignment is when you begin.
The second factor is how often you choose to wear the straighteners. The more hours per day you leave them in, the faster your teeth will move. In addition, some people’s teeth move faster or slower than others. At your first assessment, the orthodontist will be able to give you a better estimation of how long the process may take for you.
Generally, Invisalign can align the teeth about two times faster than metal braces, but if you do not wear the straighteners as often, the process could take much longer. It all depends on you and your special circumstances. Many times, the straightening process can be achieved in as little as 12 months.
For best results, Invisalign trays must be worn 22 hours per day. You can take them out for eating and when brushing your teeth. Although they must be renewed with an orthodontic visit every two weeks, compared to every four weeks with traditional braces, you will not have to wear them as long in the long run.

Is There an Age Limit for Adults to Use Invisalign?
If you are older you may be wondering, is there an age limit for adults to use Invisalign? The answer is that there is no upper limit. Whether you are 18 or 75+, you can still use Invisalign. Of course, you need to make certain that you do not have any issues such as gum recession issues, gingivitis, or advanced tooth decay. Even if you do, many of these times these problems can be corrected, and you can still use Invisalign for your teeth.
The best thing to do is to schedule an appointment with your orthodontist to make certain that your teeth are in good enough condition to undergo the procedure. Then, you can proceed from there and develop an individual plan that suits your needs. However, it is never too old to enjoy straight teeth using Invisalign.
